So being an investor hasn’t been so great in the last few days, or even the last month or so. Emerging markets, commodities, bonds, stocks, gold, silver, fixed assets – seems like everything is down. Currencies are range-bound, and unless you are buying puts, you haven’t had a good time in these markets. So what’s going on? Are the central banks decreasing the money supply (Japan in particular, as has been rumored), so that people are pulling money out of all their investments to make up for the shortage of liquidity? Is it the dreaded unwinding of the carry trade? Have hedge funds decided it’s safer holding cash? Is everyone liquidating their assets in favor of their home currencies? I imagine we’ll find out soon – I just hope it turns out well.
